Song of the Redwing

Song of the Redwing invites us into the heart of a marsh, where nature paints stories on a canvas of water and sky. Here, we meet black-necked stilts, river otters, turtles, damselflies, katydids, bats, osprey, and night herons, to name only a few. In this picture book, Redwing shares his world, from one sunrise to the next, with an array of wetland wildlife. Riding atop his outstretched wings, we greet the neighbors who make this place their home.

I love this book! In a world where it seems harder and harder for people everywhere to deeply touch and know this precious Earth we call home, “The Song of Redwing: Voice of the Wetlands” brings alive a vivid and beautifully illustrated experience truly making me feel like I’ve known life as a bird in the marsh. How exceptional and inspiring is this beautiful book! It is top of my list for all my cherished friends…

One can almost feel the mist rising from the pages of Song of the Redwing. Clearly, Tish McFadden has spent many hours among Redwings and their aquatic neighbors, and the watercolors by Laura Winslow are the perfect complement to her narrative. The pages ‘drip’ with feeling, immersing the reader in the lushness and diversity of life on each page. Here, masterful watercolors and the water realm of Redwing, together as one.
